Instructional Materials Adoption Process: Resources and Help

NOTICE Here is the latest statement from Commisioner Draud that was sent to all superintendents and principals.: On February 14, 2008, I sent a message indicating that the textbook review cycle would be put on hold due to expected cuts in funds for textbooks and instructional resources.  Now that the budget has been finalized and these funds are back to their original allotment, we will return to the original textbook adoption cycle as previously planned.  Science purchases may be made beginning July 1, 2008.  During the coming school year, mathematics materials will be reviewed and funds made available for purchasing on July 1, 2009.
Please be reminded that districts still have the option of transferring textbook funds into the other flexible focus areas.

The process of deciding which materials to buy for your school is, naturally, a challenge. Before making these big decisions, it's nice to have plenty of information and to confer with other teachers about their opinions and experiences.

The list of approved materials from KDE can be viewed by clicking HERE, but REMEMBER you are not obligated to buy from this list and there are excellent choices that are not listed for a variety of reasons.
The Links button at the top of this page will take you to a page where you can easily access the websites of many publishers and science suppliers.
