The International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration is a US-UK program studying Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica. For the month of December we invite you to participate in a special Antarctica Month Festival! We have events that are sorted by age group with something for everyone. Activities and videos match STEM themes, exploring careers, working with data, solutions based science and more. Check our webpage to find:
- Short Science Videos with matching activities focused for different ages and topics - What is it like to set off explosives on the ice to learn the ice structure? What wildlife can you find? What lies under all that ice or even under the ocean water? How can you become a polar scientist? What is it like to camp on the ice or live on a ship?
- Ask A Scientist by submitting your questions through December 10th - Our Antarctic scientists will offer insights into what it is like to work in one of the harshest and most beautiful places on Earth. They will answer questions on Antarctic research, environmental conditions, working there, their commitment to protecting this fragile environment and solving what many consider humankind's largest challenge!
- Build Thwaites Glacier paper craft & submit your proposal to tackle global warming for prize opportunities - We want to see your personalized creation with this downloadable paper craft! And older students we want your ideas on what we can do to create the change needed to slow the warming in our planet.
