Your students CAN make a difference, connecting energy content with real life applications! Last year, Kentucky students collected 2,280 pledges in the 06-07 Change a Light, Change the World (CAL) campaign. The 3,086 compact fluorescent light bulbs installed by those who signed the CAL pledge, resulted in estimated energy savings of 870,252 kWh and a reduction of 642,960 lbs. of greenhouse gas.
The Kentucky NEED Project, in partnership with the Kentucky Office of Energy Policy, announces the 2007-08 Kentucky Change a Light, Change the World Campaign. Applications for $350 mini-grants are now available to any Kentucky student group interested in conducting a CAL pledge drive this fall. Up to 50 grants will be awarded. The national campaign will be launched by ENERGY STAR on October 3, 2007. The Kentucky CAL launch will take place on October 2 during the Governor's Conference on the Environment. Change a Light project ideas can be found in the Change a Light Teacher's Guide: http://www.need.org/needpdf/NEED_ChangeALight_07.pdf. Deadline for grant applications is October 12, 2007.
