Kentucky Energy Tour – June 10 – 14, 2013

The 2013 Kentucky Energy Tour for Educators will bring together twenty-five educators from around the Commonwealth, who are passionate about bringing energy education to their classrooms. Formal and non-formal educators are encouraged to apply.  In five interactive days, traveling by charter coach through Western Kentucky, the conference will provide teachers with the opportunity to visit energy sites and meet energy experts in the area. The conference is not for the faint of heart - but has been noted as the most fun a teacher could have while learning.
There is NO cost to attend the conference – funding is provided by the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence. Sponsorship includes double occupancy lodging, meals, mileage reimbursement to and from the tour hotel and curriculum materials that support implementation of innovative energy units for classrooms, multi-disciplinary student energy teams, and after-school programs. All NEED materials meet state standards and can be utilized with students of all learning styles.  Registration will close April 30.  Educators selected to participate will be notified by May 10.

Scheduled tour stops include…

·         Coal-fired power plant
·         Hydropower plant
·         Ethanol production site
·         Surface and deep coal mines
·         Coal loading facility
·         And much more…
